The Central

The Central Artist Residency is located on Tamborine Mountain, approximately one hour from Brisbane. It provides invited artists with dedicated time and space to focus on their own creative practice while working in Jacques van der Merwe’s studio and engaging with the local arts community.

The residency is by invitation only and is not open through an application process. Invitations are extended to selected artists for residencies of seven to ten days. Accommodation and studio access are provided free of charge. Artists are responsible for their own travel, meals and art materials.

The Central Artist Residency is supported through donations. At the end of their stay, artists are invited to either make a financial contribution or donate an artwork to the Central Artist Residency Collection. Over time, this collection will form a permanent archive of the residency, documenting the artists who have participated and creating a lasting record of the programme’s development.
